What is Behavioral Therapy and How can it Help You? Behavioral therapy is an action-oriented form of psychosocial therapy that assumes that faulty thinking patterns cause dysfunctional behaviors and "negative" emotions. Dysfunctional behavior is behavior that is counter-productive or interferes with everyday living. My program focuses on treatments that change an individual's thoughts in order to change his/her behavioral and emotional states.
Behavioral therapy can be employed in any situation in which there is a pattern of unwanted behavior accompanied by distress and/or impairment. It is a recommended treatment option for stress management, weight loss, smoking, chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, anger, fears, phobias, and many other behavioral problems.
The behavioral approach is to help the "conscious mind and unconscious mind reach an agreement and support each other". Once this happens it is often very easy to break old patterns and habits. It's the closest thing to the pattern GIVING YOU UP rather than YOU GIVING UP the pattern. You still have to do your part but you will be enthused to do it!
The type of behavior you want to change and its severity determine the length of the program. If moderate we will need 5-7 sessions. If severe we will need 8-10 sessions. If extreme we will need 11-15 sessions. The sessions are 30-40 minutes in length depending on what we need to do. In any case, we will take the time necessary to accomplish the goals you intend to achieve.
